Tokamak is a leading magnetic confinement approach to producing massive fusion reactions as a renewable, carbon-free source of virtually limitless energy for generating electricity. Tokamak fusion reactors, however, are at risk of plasma-facing component damage from intense bursts of heat and particles induced by edge instabilities, called edge localized modes (ELMs). Zhang et al. have recently found an active and effective means to suppress ELMs by using ion cyclotron resonant heating (ICRH) and demonstrated the key role of radial extension of RF sheath induced by ICRH, which is deeply into the entire pedestal region. This cover illustrates the visualization of 2D wave fields excited by the ICRH antenna in the equatorial plane of Tokamak as well as the in-vessel picture (See the article (No.235211) by XinJun Zhang et al.).
